von Braun´s Review
After an amazing and complete restoration, this Elan S4 Sprint is probably one of the finest in the world. The car was imported to Sweden from the UK in November 1976 and was shortly converted to LHD. It has had the same owner in Sweden since 40 years. In recent years, the owner made a complete renovation in which Lotus Cars have been involved for several jobs. The engine has been fully refurbished, balanced and blueprinted. Recommended upgrades such as electric fuel pump, electronic "Mobelec" ignition and Burton Power water pump were mounted. All parts in the engine were measured and exchanged and the cylinder heads was refurbished with new valves, valve seats, guides and seals.
The entire powertrain was refurbished including differential, gearbox and new clutch. The Koni coil-over suspension was restored and got new coil springs. Wishbones were modified following Paul Matty Sports Cars recommendations, and all brake compnents were restored or replaced. After restoration of the fiberglass body, the frame measurements were checked at Lotus Cars. The car was then painted with authentic colors (carnival red/Cirrus white) in "Gold Leaf Scheme" at Lotus Cars "Special Paint Shop" in Norwich by Mike Saunders and his team. New front window and roof lining were assembled at Lotus Cars before the car was transported back to Sweden. The car was assembled after a comprehensive review of gauges and instruments, buttons and interior details. Motor and drivetrain has driven about 2000 km since restoration. Since the body and paint restoration 2009-2010 the car has only been driven 500 km and still looks like new.
Original tool kit and jack, workshop manual and user manual is included.
A Lotus Elan Sprint is gentle and nice to drive. Thanks to Colin Chapman's theory, "light is right", Lotus Cars dominated in racing and Formula One during the 1960's and 70's.
