von Braun´s Review
This stunning 23-window Volkswagen Type 2 T1 Kombi ‘SAMBA’ is an example of an iconic German classic, preserving the nostalgic feel of the 50s design. You don't have to be a rock star or a cowboy to be fascinated by the copper metallic paint combined with the cowhide upholstery, which together create a bus with character. The interior has also matched the wall panels with two strips of crocodile-embossed leather. In the rear of the bus, you'll find a Rock ‘n Roll seat that folds into a bed. The front rear seat turns easily so that passengers can sit opposite each other. Up top, you'll find an opening sunroof that, along with four opening side windows, can make you feel more outdoors than in. The rear window and windscreen are safari windows that open both forwards and outwards, and can be adjusted to the desired position. On the exterior, in addition to the copper metallic paint, you will find details in both chrome and black, and the rims are painted in the colours of the body along with babymoon hubcaps in chrome.
Since it arrived in Sweden in 2023, the car has only rolled to and from the inspection and is inspection exempt. This VW originates from Brazil where it has undergone a complete renovation where the chassis has been sanded and then repainted. A new interior has been fitted by saddlers where the interior roof was also replaced with new. The first generation Type 2 was produced in Europe between 1950 and 1967, but in Brazil production of the T1 continued until 1975. This example is a 1970 model, which means a more powerful 1.6-litre boxer four with just over 50 hp, as opposed to the 30 hp engine of the earlier models. The engine, gearbox, axles and brakes have been thoroughly overhauled and are either brand new or refurbished. Improvement measures could be the adjustment of a few mouldings, two window handles are missing and one needs to be reattached.
