von Braun´s Review
This completely restored and unique classic was recently imported to Sweden from Westerville, Ohio. The meter position is 3932 miles, which is equivalent to 6330 km. This is most likely the mileage driven after restoration. The Mercedes Benz 220 SE convertible was Mercedes's most exclusive model in its series. Only 2,729 pieces of 220 SE convertible were manufactured between 1961-65. 1965-67 250 SE was manufactured in 954 pieces with the same body. 1965-67, 280 SE was manufactured in 1390 pieces and 1232 pieces 280 SE with 3.5 liter engine. In total, only 6,325 cars were manufactured, which can be compared with the Mercedes SL Pagoda, which was manufactured in 49,000 copies or 190 SL, which was manufactured in 25,881 copies. The car's chassis number (VIN) is: 111023 100 519 71 which verifies that it is an original cabriolet and not one of the many remodeled cars available on the market. Mercedes small 220 engine with only 120 hp and manual gearbox has often been considered too weak and difficult to drive for such a large car model. In this particular copy, in connection with the renovation, it has therefore been replaced with a renovated engine from M130, 280 SE of 160 hp with engine number 130 016 00 01. At the same time, a floor-switched automatic transmission from 280 SE was installed.
The extensive and very lavish renovation that has been carried out on the car was going on for a long time. The entire body was cleaned to bare metal. The body's floors, screens and necessary body parts were replaced to eliminate all rusting notes. Initially, the car had black leather inside. When the new interior was manufactured in 1991, a more classic color combination in red original leather with the color code 203 was chosen. The work included the car's floor mats, door panels and side panels. The car's interior panels in wood were also renovated. In 2005, the car was painted in its white original color 050. The car was assembled with a new electrical system and newly renovated brakes and exhaust systems. A new black convertible top was mounted. The car's chrome was renovated. There are several receipts and specifications that verify the renovation work. After the renovation has been completed, the car has been driven sparingly and has been stored in a climate controlled garage. Some details on the car are possible to improve further, but our impression is that it is in a very good overall condition. New tires with white walls will be fitted before delivery from von Braun Sports Cars. You will find most information including 36 high-resolution photos at vonBraun.com.
